Oceans Aware | Mission Statement
Oceans Aware’s mission can be summed up in three simple words: Inspire, Empower, and Protect.
We want to INSPIRE people to explore the fascinating marine environment and develop a passion for learning about our oceans.
We want to EMPOWER the youth with knowledge, so they will be able to make responsible decisions for the future of our oceans.
We want to PROTECT the marine environment through the collaborative efforts of dedicated marine scientists and passionate conservation-minded individuals.
Oceans Aware | Objectives
Oceans Aware’s main objectives are to address the serious threats to marine biodiversity, particularly the alarming and devastating exploitation of shark and fish populations within our oceans. Through various community-based programs and initiatives we will illuminate the urgent need for further marine research and protection of vulnerable marine species.
As well we want to inspire children that traditionally do not have opportunities to go into higher education and provide them with the knowledge and ability to make positive choices and changes in their community. We strive to create a movement fuelled by empowered youth who want to make positive changes in their community through ocean and marine conservation. While legislation and regulations are factors in protecting these waters, we want to reach the direct sources that will impact the future of marine life in the coming years. By reaching out to people at a young age we will teach them to respect, enjoy and protect the ocean. In a sense, we will be making a long-term investment in the marine environment.
