Project Overview
Since all of the efforts of Oceans Aware is geared toward increasing people’s understanding about the importance of the marine environment around them, Oceans Aware realised that even pioneering programs such as “Meet the Sharks” have constrains in reaching larger and international audiences. The acknowledgment of this issue inspired us to start an even more challenging project. To supplement our community based outreach program Oceans Aware is working to create an extensive and interactive network for people around the world to explore and learn about the marine environment and the threats it is facing. This website entitled Pinnacle Island, will utilise games, pictures, videos, and interactive media to make the ocean’s different environments and species accessible to those who may never have the opportunity to experience such amazing wonders. Additionally, this website will include supplemental educational material for teachers whose students have taken part in our educational programs and want to continue the education process with their classes.
Pinnacle Island will revolutionize the way in which marine outreach education is conducted, by utilising innovative web technologies and incorporating the latest marine discoveries and research into an engaging and powerful format. Our goal is to inspire and empower future generations of marine enthusiasts by providing a safe and positive resource where children and individuals of all ages can become involved in making a difference in the future of our oceans.
